What started out as a few college pranks over 20 years ago, with hardcore Xbox and PS2 fans trying to sabotage each other with bad repair tips and online videos that destroy consoles, has become commonplace.
Bad tutorials from many sources seem to go viral easily now. So if you see the same information from several sources, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the proper and reliable way to repair your console. At best, what’s typically passed around the Internet are quick-fix temporary repairs by people who will do anything to get their console to work again, if only for a day or two.
I like to call them Band-Aid™ fixes, it stops the bleeding but doesn't cure the disease, so the illness returns.
Beware of the free repair advice online. Don’t be a victim of a prank. I see so many customer destroyed consoles brought in to me after they try to do it themselves.
Sadly, I could have repaired and serviced those consoles to look and run like new, if they hadn’t been destroyed by following online prank or ill advised repair videos and forum posts.
